American Impressionism

1994

At the turn of the century, Impressionism stood as the dominant aesthetic in the United States. American artists who embraced the tenets of Impressionism were influenced, on the whole, by exposure to the works of the masters of French Impressionism. This exquisite exhibition included important woks by William Merritt Chase, Mary Cassatt, Frederick Frieseke, John Twachtman, Willard Metcalf, Childe Hassam, J. Alden Weir, John Singer Sargent, Robert Reid, Edmund Tarbell and others.
