Robert Henri

1998

This exhibition was an in-depth survey of all periods of this important American artist. Paintings included his earliest Paris works, New York City scenes, Maine landscapes, portraits such as the lavish Viv (on cover) and his famed portraiture of children.  A strong group of paintings from the artist’s estate were also presented, many for the first time.   Dr. Valerie Leeds, a noted expert on the artist as well as the organizer of the 1997 Robert Henri exhibition, wrote the catalogue essay.  Bennard Perlman, author of The Eight wrote the text on the artist’s early career.
